How it works
The calculator translates gross pay using the pay frequency and hours or weeks you enter. It keeps the result before taxes and deductions so the arithmetic remains portable across locations.
Hourly annual gross = hourly amount × hours per week × paid weeks; weekly annual gross = weekly amount × paid weeks; biweekly annual gross = biweekly amount × paid weeks ÷ 2; monthly amount × 12; annual amount unchanged.
Use the output to compare schedules, not as a paycheck promise. Overtime, unpaid leave, bonuses, benefits, withholding, and employer rules can change take-home pay.
Assumptions
- The entered amount is gross pay before deductions.
- Hours per week and paid weeks per year are user-entered assumptions; weekly and biweekly estimates use the paid-week input. Hourly pay needs hours per week above zero.
- For biweekly pay, the model uses paid weeks ÷ 2 pay periods rather than assuming 26 checks in every scenario.
- Taxes, benefits, overtime, bonuses, unpaid leave, and semimonthly schedules are excluded.
Worked example
$25 per hour
At 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year, gross annual pay is $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000, or $1,000 weekly.
Step by step
- Count the paid hours. 40 hours a week × 52 paid weeks = 2,080 paid hours a year.
- Find annual gross pay. $25 × 2,080 hours = $52,000, the headline annual gross pay.
- Find the weekly equivalent. $52,000 ÷ 52 paid weeks = $1,000, the same as $25 × 40 hours.
- Find the monthly equivalent. $52,000 ÷ 12 = $4,333.33. That is more than four weeks of pay (4 × $1,000 = $4,000), because a month averages 52 ÷ 12 = 4.33 weeks.
- Check it in reverse. Entering $2,000 every two weeks with the same 52 paid weeks returns the same $52,000 and an hourly equivalent of $25, because the model counts 52 ÷ 2 = 26 paychecks.
How to read your result
The headline is annual gross pay. The secondary results convert it to a monthly, weekly, and hourly equivalent, and the table lists all four. Every figure is before federal and state income tax, Social Security and Medicare, and deductions such as health insurance or retirement contributions, so a paycheck will be smaller.
The weekly equivalent divides annual pay by paid weeks, not by 52. With 50 paid weeks the weekly figure for a $25 hourly wage stays at $1,000 and the annual total falls. The monthly equivalent always divides by 12. For salary, weekly, biweekly, or monthly entries, the hourly equivalent is annual pay ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks), and it shows as undefined when hours per week is zero.
Biweekly pay is modeled as paid weeks ÷ 2 paychecks, which is 26 at 52 weeks. Semimonthly pay (24 paychecks a year) is not a separate option; entering the paycheck × 2 as a monthly amount gives the same annual total. Overtime at a higher rate, bonuses, commissions, and unpaid leave are included only if they are built into the amount, hours, or weeks entered.
What changes the result most
- Paid weeks per year
- Two unpaid weeks (50 paid weeks) lower the $25-an-hour example from $52,000 to $50,000 and the monthly equivalent from $4,333.33 to $4,166.67. The weekly equivalent stays $1,000.
- Hours per week
- A 37.5-hour week at $25 is $48,750 a year and $937.50 a week, $3,250 a year less than a 40-hour week.
- Hourly rate
- Each extra $1 an hour adds $2,080 a year at 40 hours and 52 weeks, so $26 an hour is $54,080.
Questions
Is this take-home pay?
No. It is gross pay before taxes, insurance, retirement contributions, and other deductions.
What if I do not work 52 weeks?
Enter the number of paid weeks that matches your scenario. The result is only as good as that schedule assumption.
Does it include overtime?
Only if you incorporate overtime into the entered hours or pay assumption. It does not infer overtime rules.
$25 an hour is how much a year?
$52,000 before taxes at 40 hours a week for 52 paid weeks (2,080 hours). That is $1,000 a week and $4,333.33 a month. With 50 paid weeks it is $50,000.
How much an hour is $60,000 a year?
About $28.85 an hour at 40 hours a week and 52 paid weeks: $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.846. That is $5,000 a month and $1,153.85 a week. Select Annual as the pay frequency to convert any salary.
How do I convert a biweekly paycheck to a yearly salary?
Multiply the gross paycheck by the number of paychecks. With 52 paid weeks there are 26, so $2,500 every two weeks is $65,000 a year, or $5,416.67 a month. The page’s default inputs show this case.
